I know that when I was a kid if I heard about a book being  
banned I'd make it my business to find a copy and read it.  
                                                            
So did a lot of other kids in my generation. (The sixties   
was like that.)                                             
                                                            
I think any self respecting kid would go right for the      
forbidden fruit, but todays kids are under severe pressure  
to conform to adult society so they may have already lost   
their individuality and independence. (There ain't many     
Huckleberry Finns nowadays.) This is an attempt to subvert  
history and the American character.  The ruling class does  
not want people to be free and independent thinkers, because
people like that ca't be controlled. Huck led the exemplary 
life of the non-conformist and the powers that be want to   
restrict general knowledge of that way of life.             
                                                            
They don't want kids today growing up knowing how to be     
free.  They take away Huck Finn and instead teach kids how  
to fill out credit applications so that someone else will   
always have power over them.                                
                                                            
I grew up in New York City where the book was banned in high
schools, so our progressive elementary school teachers      
made sure we got it.
